Description

~Original character of mine:

Vaun's inspirational song: [link]

Finally, after a year I finished the shaded version of vaun. I wasn't really lazy, I was just to busy to work on it.

I am very proud of this particular costume. For years I couldn't figure out exactly what Vaun looked like and I was never satisfied with his previous costume designs. (old Vaun concepts can be found in my scraps.)

One of my pet peeves when it comes to designing is everything must be practical and still look awesome. Sure a costume like Magical Skull Armor of the Damned with spikes all over the place looks cool but your character would be in more danger of getting shanked by his own kneecaps then by his enemies. I wanted to design a costume that didn't need an excuse like magic to make it work. I believe practicality and realism is the key that successfully draws your audience into a story and allows them to push the fact that it's a game into the back of their heads. A Designer must think about every strap and seam before finalizing a design. Not only do I think this costume goes far and beyond the term "smexy", it is also structurally superior and would most likely be efficient or effective in battle.

You may also notice that some parts of his armor are missing or his costume is unpractical in certain parts. This is intentional as the character is also pretty stubborn. I couldn't design it completely based off of good looks and practicality. I had to design it around his character and personality too. He is a rich guy so He likes to be comfortable and wears fancy clothing with his armor; such as the half coat and shorts. Only the nobility weirs these type of clothes.

I'm sorry, but all the shades and such here are more spot-on. My only real issues are design based, which may be judgmental because this is obviously very Final Fantasy-based.

If you were going for something combat oriented, then the baggy sleeve is unadvised. I would tuck it into a bracer or gauntlet like on his other hand. Also, his shoulder-pad(?) looks more like a medical brace then a piece of armor. There isn't anything really wrong except that it connects to his robe(?) via a belt going across his chest. I'd recommend connecting it to the belt going over his right shoulder. (His robe seems more like it'd be a part of his shirt.) Also, his tasset, (Armored belt), should be going OVER his clothes, not under. That is simply how armor works. (Unless it isn't armor and I'm just prying too hard)

His physique is also off a tad. I'm not saying he shouldn't be thin. (Hell, I'm built almost exactly like that) But, if he is a fighter, like myself, then his physical conditioning and training would build his muscles and his torso would be thicker and bulkier. More so seen as he fights with a sword that, obviously, has a two handed grip.

OTHER THEN THAT. I like you attention to detail, and I adore his greaves. They remind me of the hero whom cut off the head of Medusa, (Can't remember his name), but that, along with the details, give the impression of ancient Greece crossed with Renaissance Italy. Which is pretty cool. (Renaissance-era armor was known for having ridiculous attention to otherwise useless details)

Now, if I mistook anything, (Namely called something armor when it wasn't meant to be), then please inform me so I can take another look at it.
