Not only do I like to build video games but I like to do and experience things that I may once incorporate in a game. If I were to have a game where the character can fix his or her own sword or shoot a bow that doesn't need magic as an excuse to work properly, I need to understand exactly how these things are made, fixed and operate. When I'm not building games, I reenact, learn to forge, work leather and carve wood. last summer I built a forge out of a break drum and steel gas pipe. I made a few tools and learned to temper but I want to learn it all, not just forging but Money is always the issue. Tools and materials I need to do "everything" could cost thousands. However, With the knowledge I've obtained through forging, I have reached the point where I can start making my own tools and I adapted a state of mind that money is not a necessity and that laziness is the real issue. What I have learned from my game studio and forging is, most people think money is the key to survival and with enough of it, happiness. I have had more satisfaction and utility out of a tool I have learned to make myself than out of a tool I bought. Anyone can learn to achieve dreams without pulling out a single dime from their pockets. In fact, it just so happens that when you keep making things for yourself, money just naturally comes to you.
So with that said, on with my announcement! ^_^ This art is different from most of the stuff I have in my gallery and is referred by many of it's creators, a sacred art. A few weeks ago I got 3 books on making bows from the library. I discovered that I couldn't live in a better place for bow making, Ohio is FILLED with the best bow wood you can get in the world including the infamous Osage orange. Osage is an unforgiving, sacred wood which doesn't tolerate anything but respect. It is the "king" of all bow woods after all. I have made some drawings of bows I plan on making and one of them is a bow that will be used in one of my games. I will be posting a series of drawings and images showing the process from building a forage to making the tools to using the tools to make a bow. No money used in the whole process whatsoever. I get scrap metal where ever I can find it even rusty crap on the side of the road is Ideal for forging and The bow wood I cut and treat myself. Hopefully some of you will be inspired by my project. If any of you would like to learn to forage or make bows feel free to ask me questions. I will try to answer them to the best of my ability, I am still just learning after all -_^
